Blue Ridge Volleyball Wins Key Conference Match over GCMS; Other Knights Sports Action

FARMER CITY, Ill. -- Once again, little sister Emily set it up so big sister Kaitlyn can knock it down.

The Zelharts led the Lady Knights to a Heart of Illinois Conference victory over the Lady Falcons.

Kaitlyn Zelhart led the way for Blue Ridge with six kills and six digs. Emily Zelhart contributed with nine assists.

With the win, the Lady Knights improve to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the HOIC. They will travel to El Paso-Gridley High School on Thursday to take on the Titans.

Meanwhile, the Blue Ridge junior varsity team lost to GCMS 25-12, 23-25, 15-7.

NORMAL, Ill. -- According to Blue Ridge Web site's athletics link, the Knights' record for most goals scored in a season is held by Tyler Reeser, who scored 31 goals in 1998.

Just 11 games into the 2011 season, J.J. Malone has already recorded 28 goals. He delivered another scoring barrage to his 2011 season, tallying four goals to lead the Knights to their 10th victory of the season over Calvary Christian.

Conner Builta also scored a goal and recorded an assist for Blue Ridge.

With the win, the Knights improve to 10-1. They will host St. Thomas More on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Girls Golf
BLUE RIDGE 209, OLYMPIA 217

FARMER CITY, Ill. -- Amber Tsevelekos medaled at the Woodlawn Country Club, shooting a 42 to lead the Lady Knights to victory over Olympia.

Kelsey Baker and Jacquelyn O'Neal each shot a 54 to tie for fourth among individual golfers.

Blue Ridge (10-7) will host a golf outing against El Paso-Gridley on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Boys Golf
HEYWORTH HORNET INVITATIONAL
At Weibring Golf Course, Normal

Blue Ridge finished sixth at the Heyworth Invite with a team score of 183.

El Paso-Gridley won the invite with a score of 162.

Austin Maxwell led the way for the Knights, tying for 16th place among individual golfers by scoring a 43. Mason Potts and Dylan Weidner each shot a 46, tying for 27th place.

Will Duggins took 36th place by shooting a 48.

Blue Ridge will host El Paso-Gridley at Woodlawn Country Club on Thursday at 4 p.m.
